Branchwater Nubians

Branchwater is a small herd of registered purebred Nubian dairy goats.
I am presently located in Marshall NC but will be relocating this fall to Brownsville TN.
In 2005 I purchased my first goats which where brush and Boer crosses but a few months later I saw an ad for three registered nubians and loved the idea of producing milk at home. I also liked the fact that dairy goats required alot more hands on involvement when there was'nt much to do for the brush goats and could'nt quite justify keeping them. I don't know if I would have stuck with the dairy goats if I did'nt have neighbors that were so willing to help and answer questions, so Thank You to the Mecho's,the Mickey's and Maureen Moore for getting me started. I was fasinated when a 12yr old(Bean) and a 15yr old (Moonie) taught me how to disbudd my first kids. I've come along way in 5 yrs and am more motivated than ever to produce fine Nubians that show and milk. In June of 09 I finished my first does championship (as a yearling believe it or not) even though she is not of my breeding I'm awful proud.(Penny Pop) I also attended my first Linear Appraisal in 09 and was shocked when one of the first does I ever bought scored a 91EEEE as a four yr old.(Trouble) All kids are bottle raised on heat treated colostrum and pasteurized milk.I annually test for CAE and have never had a positive result, knock on wood.I have pretty much closed my herd at this point and will only bring in a new buck periodically. All new bucks purchased will be G6S negative. I,ve also worked for the past year and a half at a grade B goat dairy here locally and this has really been invaluable knowledge.I will try to keep this blog updated as much as possible with the goings on of my herd and current pictures, linear scores and show results. Thank's so much for taking an interest in my goats. Scott Jenkins

CH Jacobs Pride Za Penny Pop

Pop's D.O.B. is 2/4/08 and I purchased her at 6 wks old from Jacobs Pride.Sire:*B Wingwood Farm TY Zapata Dam: GCH Jacobs Pride Pop Rock Candy. Pop is a first freshening yearling and as of June of 09 she is a permanent Champion. She was shown 5 times as a JR. placing 1x3rd(fletcher nc) 2x2nd(nc mtn. state fair and gwinnette cnty ga.) and 2xGCH(franklin tn and naile ky) She freshened on 5/1/09 with twin does and was shown 3wks later and was RGCH in first ring and 2nd in the other(clemson sc) On June 13 she was shown in another 2 ring show (shelby nc) and was GCH in both finishing her championship.I was'nt sure whether to be happy or not.Hopefully in the years to come she will be shown in champion challenge and maybe nationals. Her most competative show win was Nov. of 08 at The North American International Livestock Expo in Louisville KY where she was JR GCH out of about 70. I reatained one of her doelings (Paralee) and she seems to be very promising.

Jacobs Pride T Pop Ada D.O.B. 3/14/09

I purchased Ada this spring along with her 2 paternal sisters from Jacobs Pride. There sire is Penny Pop's littermate brother(Jacobs Pride Za Tootie Pop Kid) who was retained by Jacobs Pride as there JR herd sire in 08. With my success with Pop, I took advantage of the opportunity to purchase these three doe kids. I had them paid for by spring and in April I drove to Springfield MO. to meet Tricia who had actually driven out to AZ. to pick up kid's. Tricia and her family delivered our very healthy kid's to us in Springfield. After talking with them regularly before the trip I did'nt have to worry about the kids health or safety which made my trip alot less stressful. And I got 4 kids delivered for the price it would have cost to fly 1.
Ada's Dam:Jacobs Pride All The Darmar 4 U
Sire: Jacobs Pride Za Tootie Pop Kid
I took Ada to 2 shows this year and she placed 2x1st and 1x2nd (shelby nc and fletcher nc)

Dun Clunaigh LS Trouble

D.O.B. 2/8/05 2009 L.A. 91 EEEE
Trouble was one of the first nubians I purchased, along with her twin sister Graciouse. She has a great temperament even though she was dam raised. She has been the best milker I've owned, being consistant in production and quantity(about 10 lbs a day) I signed her up for one day milk test this year but the week of she went down to 8 lbs a day and I was showing some kids at the same time so I decided not to take her.I will definantly take her at the next opportunity. I did take her to my first linear appraisal and she surprised me by scoring 91 EEEE. I've known she was a nice doe but I am still amateur at my judging skills and was very pleased with her score. I hope to breed her to Kastdemur's Amazin before I move next month.

Dun Clunaigh LS Gracious

Grady is Trouble's twin sister and is every bit the doe her sister is.I took Grady to L.A. this year and she could not be appraised because her tatoo's were in the wrong ears. No more tatooing at midnight the night before the appraisal. I really would have loved to see how she scored compared to her sister. Grady was dam raised and never took to people the way her sister did but she is equivalent to her sister in every other way. I also hope to breed her to Amazin before I move.

Kidding has begun

Grady was due to kid around feb. 3 but due to a severe case of toxemia I decided to induce her 9 days earlier. When she failed to kid on her own after inducing, I decided it was time to have a c section in order to save her. We took her to University of TN. and the staff retrieved 3 live kids and worked for 20 min. to get them going. They all eventually started breathing. That night in her stall Grady gave natural birth to 1 more kid , a buckling. Total being 1 doe and three bucks. 2 days later the doeling died. Grady has been through intense therapy for 2 wks at UT to get her back on her feet and she is now able to get up on her own. The bucklings are well and gaining weight. I happen to have an employer at a dairy who made it possible to take Grady to UT as this is something I could have never afforded on my own. I hope to post some pics of this experience soon and the bucklings are beautiful and available at a great price. They are sired by Jacobs Pride BR Hands R Tied *B

Foxwood MCcay Ripple A.I. dob: 3/19/08

This is my yearling buck I purchased from Paul Fox last year. Ripple has developed into a tremendouse and correct buck. I have'nt even used him yet. This yearling already weighs roughly 200 lbs. If you are familiar with does that resided in this herd you know who GCH Briarknoll Piejar's MCcayla was which is Ripple's gr dam on his sires side. Ripple's dam Rachel goes back to Operator. I look forward to using this buck soon. Thanks Paul Fox for breeding such outstanding goats.
